Vista Courts closed for Covid-19 pandemic until May 26, 2020. The Court is actually closed through May 22, but that is memorial day weekend which makes it opening on Tuesday 5/26/20. Due to this highly contagious and potentially deadly flu virus, the courts are closed for the safety of the Court personnel as well as the public. Dramatic steps have been taken to release non violent prisoners from the county jail thereby decreasing the possible spread within the jail All Criminal Courts were closed for since mid March, however, there are a couple Courts open to handle limited in-custody appearances and proceedings handled through video.
Due to Covid-19 closure, all other cases will be rescheduled and out of custody defendants will be notified of new dates for appearances and rescheduling Court ordered requirements. There are hundreds of criminal cases which will have to be pulled and rescheduled. I anticipate a new normal for Court appearances which will include social distancing, masks and perhaps other screening mechanisms. It is going to be a NEW WORLD in Court for the foreseeable future. Some of the issues that need to be addressed in addition to appearances on open cases are sentence requirements with deadlines that have passed, fine payments past due, program proof, public work deadlines and many other issues to be worked out.
If you have a Criminal Defense Attorney, you should call them to make sure your concerns will be addressed. If you do not have a Criminal defense attorney, it may be in your best interest to discuss your case with one and see what they can do for you to avoid the confusion and serious consequences that can occur if your issues are not addressed.
