DUI arrests are most likely in Carlsbad in five different areas. These areas see the most traffic and are patrolled more than the residential areas. Some areas have both Carlsbad Police and California Highway Patrol actively involved in DUI enforcement. The areas patrolled by both Carlsbad Police and CHP are the freeways I-5 and the “78”. The Coast Highway and El Camino Real are also major roads which are heavily patrolled and subject to DUI Checkpoints.
The downtown village area of Carlsbad has a thriving nightlife with nice restaurants, music, and sports bars. Officers are watching people exiting bar areas especially late at night or early morning. Any place where people tend to go and alcohol is avaialable becomes an area that has potential for drinking drivers and possible public safety issues. Bar closings at 2:00 a.m. are always a more active period for DUI arrests especially on the weekends. Officers may observe an intoxicated person getting in their car, suspicious driving, a fix it violation or even pull someone over for no front license plate (which is required on California registered vehicles).
It is important to have a designated driver, take a cab or watch carefully your alcohol intake so you do not become a DUI arrest statistic driving while impaired or .08 BA or more.
