You may transport a concealable firearm in your vehicle if you are not a person prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. It must be unloaded, no bullets or loaded magazine in the weapon and it must be in a locked gun case unless you have a “concealed weapon” permit that allows you to carry the weapon. The gun should be legal and registered. If the gun is loaded or in an unlocked case, or not in a case it will be confiscated and you will be cited or arrested for illegal possession of a concealable firearm.
This charge carries up to 12 months custody, $ 1000 fine and destruction of the handgun. Every case is different and every individual is different. The resolution of these cases depends on a number of factors like why you had the handgun loaded or not in a locked case, your background, your training, your employment, whether drugs or alcohol ar also involved. Even if you are arrested or cited for the violations concerning a concealable firearm there are a number of factors which can help get the charges dismissed, reduced or penalties minimized. The reason for the stop or initial contact is also important.
