Encinitas DUI and Cardiff DUI hotspots are places where there seems to be the most "drunk driving" arrests in those cities. The Encinitas Sheriffs make most of the arrests in Encinitas and Cardiff as they patrol more of the city streets, however, the California Highway Patrol, based out of Oceanside, handle most of the I-5 freeway driving under the influence arrests and some of the Coast Highway stops. The cases are heard at the Vista Courthouse. Most DUI arrests are in the hours between 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. so it is no surprise that the bar areas in Encinitas along with Cardiff restaurant row are the DUI arrest hotspots.
Its like trapping lobster, if you want to catch lobster, you set up in there habitat near structure, kelp or eel grass. If you want to arrest DUI suspects, where would you set up? The bars and restaurants, and when would be most likely to snag one? Best time is around Bar closing 2:00 a.m., when they are forced out in the open and roadways. You may think you are fine, you feel the effects as the alcohol level climbs, but as it falls you think you are no longer affected. It is deceptive becuse you don't feel the "buzz" anymore, or far less even though your blood alcohol (BA) level could be well above the legal limit .08 BA.
The single mistake I see more than any other besides weaving, is pulling out of the Beach House, Chart House, or the Pacific Coast Grill on the beach side of highway 101. You cannot just turn north because there are 2 sets of double yellow lines indicating an island between north and souhbound traffic that cannot be crossed. Go south and U turn at the light which is only a few hundred yards south, or better yet - take a cab, you'll save $ 5000.
