DUI Restricted License Requirements for a North County DUI

On Behalf of | Dec 8, 2013

A DUI restricted license for a North County DUI or California DUI, requires you go to the DMV, have no other active suspensions, have your insurance company file an SR-22 with DMV, have the DUI program file proof of enrollment in the program and pay $125 reinstatement fee to DMV.  If you lost your license from DMV for being .08 Blood Alcohol (B.A.) level or more, you have a 4 month suspension which can be converted to a one month suspension and 5 month restriction after the one month license suspension is served.

The SR-22 insurance form required for a DUI restricted license is not only proof of insurance but also acknowledgement by the insurance company that they will notify the DMV if you cancel your insurance which will result in a license suspension.  When you sign up for your DUI school, you must start classes within 3 weeks but only need to be signed up for the program with proof forwarded to DMV so you can get a restricted license.  Generally, we recommend signing up for the program 2 weeks into the suspesnion and actually starting class 3 weeks later, that way you will have a license to attend classes and only need a ride to the orientation to sign up.  It takes at least a week for these proofs to be logged into the DMV data base so when you go to the DMV to get the restricted license, the SR-22, program enrollment will be verified and then you will be asked to pay the $125 restricted license reinstatement fee.

The DUI restricted license is important to nearly every DUI defendant.  If you get caught driving while suspended your vehicle gets impounded for 30 days, fines over $1500, jail, ignition interliock device and more.  Call Christoph Law Offices @ 760-670-3885 for a free consultation concerning yourt DUI, licensing and all aspects of DUI Defense.  Attorneys Nicholas an William Christoph have 40 years of combined experience and have handled over 3000 DUI cases, they are located across from the Vista Courts and have been there for over 30 years.
